"And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God." (Matthew 16:16)
What a person believes can change their whole destiny.
Everyone believed the world was flat, except for Christopher Columbus. And look at what happened.
Adolf Hitler believed that he was of a super-race of people, and look at what happened. He murdered millions of innocent men, women, and, even, children.
What a person believes defines who they are!
Jesus asked His disciples, "...But whom say ye that I am?" (v. 15)
Peter answered, "...Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God." Simply uttering a statement of faith changed everything for Peter. He put into words what he believed! And, that was all it took to secure eternal salvation for Peter.
I remember reading a slave's story. He was from France, and was a little boy when the Romans sacked his village. Those that were not killed in the attack became slaves. He grew up in the Roman Empire, not knowing anything but slavery. When he was a grown man, his owner did something that changed his life. In Latin, it is "manumissio", the freeing of a slave. He testified that his owner called him before witnesses, and touched the top of his head with a staff, and he was freed! Just a simple act, and he was no longer a slave. He could not believe that it could be that simple!
Uttering the simple statement of faith, "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God," will not only change a person's life, but eternity, as well.
Say the words, and mean them.
From my heart to your heart.
