"And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him." (Exodus 32:1)
Moses has been on Mount Sinai for forty days and forty nights. That is a long time with people!
Of course, the presence of God is beyond ignoring! The mountain is on fire, and covered with smoke and clouds. The ground beneath there feet is rumbling and shaking.
Yet, they are ready to give up on God, and on Moses, and head back to Egypt. Forgotten is all of the hardships they experienced in Egypt.
This makes me think about our Lord, Jesus Christ. He has been gone a long time. And people have given up on him. and want to return to a life of bondage and sin.
Don't give up on Jesus! He is coming again. Remain faithful. You will be glad that you didn't quit!
Moses did return, and found the people partying, and feasting. It broke his heart!
Can you imagine how the heart of Jesus breaks when His followers give up on Him,
From my heart to your heart.
