"And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night." (Luke 2:8)
If you feel unworthy and insignificant, then you will be able to empathize with these shepherds.
These shepherds were a vital part of the economy in their day, but were viewed as second, and maybe even third class citizens.
Shepherds were viewed as unclean by the religious, and were not welcome to any of their worship services.
Their "abiding in the fields" was not only a necessary part of their jobs, but was also where they felt the most welcome.
Isn't it interesting that God sent an angel band to lowly shepherds, and not to noblemen and the well-to-do.
The angels came to the down-trodden, and the overlooked, to those who were on the outside looking in!
God is like that! He loves the humble, and the underdog.
So, don't worry that you are not a big-shot in this world. Be comfortable and content with who God made you. And know that God takes a particular interest in those that are small in their own eyes.
From my heart to your heart.
