"And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him; and when they opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, frankincense, and myrrh." (Mathew 2:11)
The wise men came from the east in search of the One born king of the Jews. They didn't know His name, but they were seeking Him.
Wise men and women still seek for Jesus! A foolish person will seek the tangible things of this world, the things that will rot, rust, and ruin. No matter how diligent and careful you are, they will somehow slip through your fingers, and disappear. But Jesus is always there, and will never leave you nor forsake you.
When they found Jesus, they worshipped Him. Truly, if anyone was ever deserving of your worship and adoration, it is the Lord Jesus Christ. No one has done as much for the people of this world as Jesus has. No one loves you like Him!
The wise men presented their treasures to Jesus. What is it that you hold dear? Give it to Jesus. Give your children to Him, and your grands, as well. Give to Him your life, and serve him.
The wise men presented Him with three gifts. Each was prophetic in nature.
1) The gold was for Jesus, the king. Not only was He the king of Israel, but of the whole of creation! He will always be the king, for His kingdom will never end!
2) The frankincense was for Jesus, the divine. Jesus is Immanuel, God with us. He was all God, and all man, all at the same time! When He walked upon water, it was because He was God. When He raised Lazarus from the tomb, it was because He was God!
3) The myrrh was for Jesus, the sacrifice for our sin. Truly, He is the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world. He was born for that purpose, to make a way for us to heaven.
The wise men came from so far away to find Jesus. But no journey is so great that it should keep you from coming unto Him.
You may feel distant from God, and the church, but please make the effort to close the distance. Come unto Him that loves you, and gave His to save you from the penalty of your sin.
I feel in my heart that the wise men made that journey, and were glad that they did. To their dying day, they would remember Him that was born in Bethlehem. I feel certain that they gave their lives to Him that day. If they did, they have seen Him again. But this time, He is not the Child they met before. He is Lord of lords, and King of kings. And He is loving, gracious, and kind! He has presented them with precious gifts. Most precious of all, He has given unto them forgiveness, and salvation!
From my heart to your heart.
