"And it came to pass afterward, that he loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah." (Judges 16:4)
"Poison Places and Poison People" will ruin the strongest of Christians!
Samson has gone to a place called "Sorek". It is the valley that is used as a border between Judea and Philistia. The name, "Sorek", means, "fruitless tree". As inferred by its name, it is no place to be.
Lesson number 1: "Stay away from some places." There are places in this world that you should never go to. All that is there is sorrow and pain. Going to some places can ruin your entire life!
Samson meets someone in Sorek. Her name is "Delilah", which means "delicate". Delilah is believed to be a Philistine, and, quite possibly, a prostitute.
Lesson number 2: "Stay away from some people." I am quite certain that Delilah must have been a very beautiful woman. Well, at least on the outside. Inside, she was not so pretty!
Although the Bible says that Samson "...loved a woman in the valley of Sorek, whose name was Delilah...", the Bible does not say that Delilah loved Samson!
Samson was merely "arm-candy". Delilah loved the idea of controlling a big, strong galoot like Samson, but she did not love him! When you love someone, you could never do anything to hurt them.
I am convinced that Delilah was a Philistine agent that would do anything for her people, and for a price. There are many "Delilah's in this world. They are not all women, either. "Delilah's" are agents from hell.
Places, and People! Not every place is a good place to be at, and not every person is a good person to be with!
Be very careful out there. The valley of Sorek is a fruitless tree, and Delilah is a dangerous person. Even the strongest of us can be brought to ruin!
From my heart to your heart.
